Speaking Truth in an Age of Blindness

While almost everyone attests to the reality of biological science, very intelligent people are seemingly denying its existence as it relates to human sexuality. The current liberal culture has disregarded science by allowing biological males to compete in girls' athletic events and permitting men to self-identify as women for access to female bathrooms and locker rooms. This mindset has even extended to the point of pushing "gender-affirming" mutilation surgeries onto healthy children. If you question the absurdity of this, your words are labeled "hate speech" by authorities and experts. How is this possible?

The fundamental basis of science is extrapolating principles or laws based on reality. However, we see a cultural movement that has forsaken truth and the empirical evidence that comprises it. What compels “good” minds to turn away from truth? Before considering this further, let’s make sure we are thinking in terms of shared meaning.

Reality is defined as “the world or the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them.”

Truth is defined as “conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been, or shall be.”

Operating based on clear, commonly held definitions, applying these concepts is straightforward. The foundation of science is observing “the state of things as they actually exist.” To see reality but deny its truth is not science; it is an act of delusion. How do we reconcile sound and intelligent minds choosing delusion over truth? They are acting in a state of blindness.

“In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Corinthians 4:4, ESV).

We should not be surprised when non-Christians choose lies over truth. They are spiritually blinded and thereby constrained by the world to believe and act according to their humanistic philosophies. How else could they fully embrace an ideology that states a biological man can be a woman and contradict a fundamental truth of science? Yet, as Christians, we are truth-bearers and must do all we can to help others uphold and embrace it.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2, ESV).

My friend and esteemed colleague Dr. Del Tackett phrases it like this: Unbelievers are like prisoners of war held captive by the lies of this world. As Christians, our role is to embody God’s truth and grace and, Lord willing, be used by Him to help set people free. While it may be appealing sometimes to disengage from our culture's maddening wokeness and wickedness, we cannot. In Christ, we are stewards of the Lord’s truth and grace, and He has us here for a purpose–to be His ambassadors in our homes, communities, and the public square. This is our calling – and how we must live.

“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:20, ESV).
