In the days leading up to the Revolutionary War, Christian pastors often led the cry for liberty. They were in fact the boldest and most respected men in their communities. When the fighting broke out, many of these clergymen led the men of their congregations into battle. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson and his guest, Dan Fisher, author of Bringing Back the Black Robed Regiment, continue their discussion about the need for spiritual revival. Fisher highlights various stories of America’s 18th century pastors, including Jonas Clarke and Thomas Allen, who boldly preached of the right to resist tyrannical rule.

Dan Fisher

Dan Fisher is the co-pastor of Fairview Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma, and a former member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, having served in his state’s legislature from 2012-2015. Dan grew up in Van Buren, Arkansas, and is a graduate of Van Buren High School, Westark Community College, and Arkansas Tech University. He is the author of Bringing Back The Black-Robed Regiment, a historical non-fiction book which describes the 18th century American patriot pastors who bravely led their men onto the battlefield to face the British during The Revolutionary War. Dan’s passion is to rally a new “black-robed regiment” of clergymen to arm Americans with the Word to uphold Judeo-Christian principles on which this country was based. Believing the Bible addresses every subject, including politics, Dan dresses in full period-piece regalia and holds certified Revolutionary War artifacts as he speaks to groups around the country about the first black-robed regiment, who were brave enough to preach from the pulpit about spiritual and civil liberties. Dan and his wife, Pam, have been married since 1981 and have two adult children and six grandchildren. Today, Dan and Pam raise horses on 30 acres just west of Yukon, OK, where they live in a log house they built themselves.
