Following the death of George Floyd in the custody of police, thousands have taken to the streets to protest racial injustice. U.S. Senator Tim Scott and Dr. James Dobson talk by phone about the public outcry over Mr. Floyd's death. They address the growing social unrest, as well as condemn the violence, and share a hopeful message of healing.

Senator Tim Scott

Senator Timothy Eugene Scott is the junior Republican United States Senator representing South Carolina. He was appointed by Governor Nikki Haley in 2013, and won a special election the following year to serve a full term. From 1995-2009, Senator Scott was a member of the Charleston County council. From 2009-2011, he served as a representative in South Carolina’s state house and from 2011-2013, he served as a U.S. congressman, representing South Carolina’s 1st District. Senator Scott is the first African-American ever elected to the U.S. Senate from South Carolina, and the first from a southern state since Reconstruction in 1881. He is also the only African-American to serve in both houses of the U.S. Congress. He received a partial football scholarship to Presbyterian College before attending Charleston Southern University and graduating with a B.S. in political science in 1988.
