When most Christian singles date, they often follow the road of secular culture. They put emotions ahead of biblical principles. On today’s edition of Family Talk, JP Pokluda, senior pastor of Harris Creek Baptist Church, points to 1 Timothy 4:12, which says, “Set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” The author of Outdated: Find Love That Lasts When Dating Has Changed says you should date someone long enough to examine those same five attributes. Does the person you are interested in act and speak in a God-honoring way? Is he or she committed to purity before marriage?

JP Pokluda

JP Pokluda is the lead pastor of Harris Creek Baptist Church in Waco, Texas. He previously served as the leader of The Porch, a ministry which grew to be the largest weekly young adult gathering of its kind in the country. JP didn’t come to understand the grace of the gospel until his early twenties after being involved in several different denominational churches. This ignited a desire in him to inspire young adults to radically follow Jesus Christ, and unleash them to change the world. JP is the author of Welcome to Adulting, Welcoming the Future Church, Outdated, and Why Do I Do What I Don’t Want to Do? He is married to Monica, and they have three children.
