According to Psalm 127:3, “Children are a heritage from the Lord.” Oftentimes, parents of children who have special needs experience a unique joy and perspective that other parents may never encounter. On today’s classic edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson interviews Emily Colson and her dad, the late Chuck Colson, about Emily’s son, Max, who has autism.

Chuck Colson was the founder of the Prison Fellowship Ministry (PFM), Prison Fellowship International (PFI) and The Colson Center for Christian Worldview. He was a best-selling author of many books, an international speaker, a syndicated columnist and a commentator on his radio program, BreakPoint. Colson received his bachelor’s degree with honors in history from Brown University, and completed his juris doctor with honors at George Washington University Law School. He was sent to prison in 1974 for his involvement in the Watergate scandal under President Richard Nixon. During the trial, Colson became a born-again Christian. After serving seven months, he started Prison Fellowship as a way to minister to the incarcerated. During his lifetime, Chuck Colson held 15 honorary doctorates, and was awarded the prestigious Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion in 1993. Chuck went home to be with the Lord in 2012 at the age of 80.

Emily Colson is a popular speaker and author of the award-winning book, Dancing with Max. In the publication, Emily and her father, Chuck Colson, shared the struggle and beauty of life with Emily’s son, Max, who was diagnosed with autism at a young age. Through Emily’s powerful message on the sanctity of life, she has inspired many to persevere through their own challenges.
