Colorado cake maker, Jack Phillips, made national headlines in 2012, when he was mercilessly ridiculed for refusing to design a cake for a same-sex wedding.Today, he and his attorney, Jim Campbell, sit down with Dr. Dobson in the Family Talk studios to review Jacks ongoing fight for religious expression. Jim unpacks why this is a freedom of speech case, not discrimination; while Jack shares how his faith influences his cake designs.

Jack Phillips and Jim Campbell

Jack Phillips is the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, in Lakewood Colorado. He has always loved art and possessed a natural ability for it. Upon high school graduation, Jack took his first job working at a bakery. He fell in love with the way he could express his artistic ability through baking and eventually decided to open his own cakeshop. Masterpiece Cakeshop opened in 1993 and has remained in business ever since. Jack is a Colorado native and was raised in the Christian faith. He and his wife Debi have 3 grown children, and grandchildren as well. Jim Campbell has worked as Senior Counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom since 2007. His focus has been on defending freedom of conscience and religious liberties. Jim has published articles in USAThe Washington Post, National Review, and The Federalist. Some of Jims most notable cases include Hands On Originals v. Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission, Neely v. Wyoming Commission on Judicial Conduct and Ethics, and Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. He graduated from the University of Akron School of Law in 2006 with a Juris Doctor.
