When most people think of getting fit, they focus exclusively on strengthening their physical bodies. But, on today's edition of Family Talk, Dr. Walt Larimore points to the importance of another kind of strength training through the pursuit of a healthy life balance,relationally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Dr. Larimore stresses the value of healthy eating but also underscores the need to read the Bible, forgive others, spend time outdoors, and volunteer.

Dr. Walt Larimore

Dr. Walt Larimore retired from direct patient care in December 2021, after serving 41 years as a family physician and delivering over 1,500 babies. During his career, Dr. Larimore was listed in Distinguished Physicians of America, The Best Doctors in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, International Health Professionals of the Year, and International Health Scientists of the Year. He completed his residency in family medicine at Duke University Medical Center in 1981, and completed a general practice teaching fellowship at Queen’s Hospital in Nottingham, England in 1978. His M.D. degree was from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1977, and his B.S. degree was from Louisiana State University in 1974. He previously served as vice president and family physician in residence at Focus on the Family from 2001 through 2004. Dr. Larimore is also an award-winning medical journalist and best-selling author of more than 40 books, including Fit over 50: Make Simple Choices for a Healthier, Happier You, and The Best Medicine: Tales of Humor and Hope from a Small-Town Doctor. Walt and his childhood sweetheart, Barb, have been married for 49 years and reside in Colorado. They have two grown children and two grandchildren.
