Are you and your spouse trapped in the patterns of conflict? Today on Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson welcomes Dr. Arch Hart and his daughter, Dr. Sharon May, to discuss their book, Safe Haven Marriage. They'll share practical insights for breaking free from destructive cycles and building the kind of relationship you long for.
Dr. Arch Hart was a highly respected and published clinical psychologist and board-certified diplomate fellow in psychopharmacology. He was best known for his research on the hazards of ministry, depression, anxiety, stress, and divorce. Dr. Hart served as dean emeritus and professor emeritus at the School of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, and was the author of over 35 books including Safe Haven Marriage, and The Digital Invasion: How Technology is Shaping You and Your Relationships. He was one of the early advocates and developers of the field now known as Christian Psychology, and made significant contributions to the professions of Christian counseling. Dr. Hart passed on July 18, 2021, following his wife, Kathleen, who passed on June 29, 2021. They are survived by their three daughters, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dr. Sharon May is founder and president of the Safe Haven Relationship Counseling Center. She received a Ph.D. in marriage and family therapy, and a master's degree in theology from Fuller Graduate School of Theology. Her dissertation and consequent research work has focused on emotionally focused therapy, attachment theory and the importance of healthy and strong marital and family relationships being “safe havens.” Dr. May is the author of two books, Safe Haven Marriage, and How to Argue So Your Spouse Will Listen. She and her husband, Mike, reside in Carlsbad, California.
