You can lift spirits this Christmas!

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32

It’s hard to imagine that around 200 years ago, Christmas in Great Britain had almost become extinct. One reason could be that unemployment and hunger were widespread during these days. In fact, The Times newspaper didn’t mention the word “Christmas” even once between 1790 and 1835.

So what changed?

Well, in 1843, Charles Dickens wrote his book, A Christmas Carol, which was instrumental in reviving Christmas. His goal was to encourage the wealthy to act with generosity and compassion toward the poor – to not be like the story’s main character, Ebenezer Scrooge.

Reading Dickens’ classic work has become a tradition for many during the holiday season, because it embodies the very spirit of generosity and giving that makes Christmas so special.

This Christmas, you can embody the spirit to those around you who need it. Be kind, generous, and warm to others who could use a touch of the Christmas spirit. When God uses you to show His love to others, they’ll be changed!

Prayer Challenge:

Ask God to help you become a blessing to others this Christmas season through kindness, compassion, and generosity!

Questions for Thought:

Think of a time when someone else’s good attitude rubbed off on you. How did it change your demeanor?

As you talk with your friends who might be struggling this month, what’s one way you can help them experience the joy of Christ?
