Peace

Written by Becky Thompson | October 20, 2020

For years, Christians have been told that if they just prayed harder or had more faith, they would find hope and healing for their anxious hearts. While fear is certainly a spiritual battle, we must remember that anxiety isn't just a faith issue. If we are going to find hope and healing, it is important to address the mental, physical, and emotional aspects of fear. We must pursue healing in all areas. The good news is that we have a God who still miraculously heals today. We just might need to redefine what we consider miraculous.

Throughout Scripture, we find moments where God intervened, stepping into a situation and doing what only He could do. Often these miracles took place in an instant. Yet, other times they unfolded as a process. In Matthew chapter nine, Jesus granted immediate sight to a blind man. In John chapter nine, He created a paste out of mud and spit and sent a blind man to wash in a pool. Both men received their healing. One was instant, and the other required additional steps of faith. In our lives, we must remember that miracles can happen in an instant and also take time to unfold.

God is still the originator of the healing, and He has a personalized path for each of us. The most important step in your healing journey is the next one God is directing you to take. Each one leads to your miracle. In order to see healing in our lives, we also need to remember that miraculous moments are still miracles. As we contend for total healing, we often overlook the moment-by-moment divine intervention in our circumstances. For example, when we find ourselves at peace in a situation that would normally trigger fear, we should consider it a miracle! When we are able to rest at the end of a stressful day rather than feel our minds spinning out of control, it's a miracle!

These moments reveal God's presence and work in our lives. But often as we pray and ask God for total healing, we overlook daily proof of His love and power. I'm not asking you to limit what you consider miraculous. I'm asking you to expand it to see how God meets you in a supernatural way, even in your day-to-day life. By remembering these two important truths, we will continue down the path to wholeness. Friend, anxiety isn't your fault. It's some of what Jesus paid the ultimate price for on the cross. Through His sacrifice, we have access to the Father who loves us and His Son promised to send us His Peace. I'll leave you with these words of our friend Jesus, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27
