What Would the Presidents Say?

February is the month when two of our greatest presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, were born. Both of these great men loved America and loved God. I suppose they would be called "Christian Nationalists" today—and it would not be meant as a compliment. Here are just two quotes of what they thought about God and America.

"In regard to this Great book [Bible], I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to man. All the good the Savior gave to the world was communicated through this book." Abraham Lincoln, sixteenth president

"The man must be bad indeed who can look upon the events of the American Revolution without feeling the warmest gratitude towards the great Author of the Universe [God] whose divine interposition was so frequently manifested in our behalf." George Washington, first President. September 28, 1789

There are literally hundreds of quotes from both of these heroic men who formed our nation based on the central truth that our liberty comes from God.

In fact, every president from our very beginning, as an independent nation, recognized that without the God of the Bible, America was doomed.

What is happening now in our country is an aberration. Powerful forces in and out of government are attacking religious liberty and demonizing men and women of faith who love God and our country.

Our founders and historic heroes are likely watching us—a "great cloud of witnesses," to see if we have the courage to preserve what they, with God's blessing, fought so hard to create.

Inspiration That Could Save America

There is always an October surprise in every election, and we may have just experienced it. More on that later. The presidential campaigns are deploying resources and crafting messages to clarify the choice before us. Former President Donald Trump spent half an hour as a McDonald’s employee, effectively turning it into “Donald’s” as he served Pennsylvania families burgers and fries. At a rally in the same state, steel workers gathered around him and gave him a hard hat, insisting that Trump saved the steel industry. Then Trump showed his support of the American people by attending an NFL game. The stadium erupted in chants of “USA! USA!”
