Title IX’s Original Protection for Girls and Women

Title IX’s Original Protection for Girls and Women
3:23

We have some great news! An attempt by the Biden administration to force radical transgender ideology in our schools has been struck down nationwide by a federal district court. JDFI, with your prayers and support, has been a leader in this fight.

Here’s what happened. The dispute has involved Title IX of the Higher Education Amendments of 1972. That law was intended to protect women and girls from discrimination in education. Experts have said the law has been incredibly effective for over fifty years in expanding opportunities for females.

When the Biden-Harris administration took office in 2021, they immediately started promoting transgender dogma. In April 2024, working closely with influential LGBTQ organizations, Biden’s Department of Education issued a new Title IX rule that redefined the word “sex” by including “gender identity” ideology. The change was extreme and dangerous.

Our laws have consistently recognized that there are biological differences between males and females. The Biden-Harris rule turned the law’s intended purpose—to safeguard and protect girls and women—upside down.

Powerful federal officials and lawyers at the Department of Education told schools receiving federal funds that they would lose those subsidies unless they allowed boys who “identify” as girls to receive the same protections covering girls.

Forcing schools to allow boys into girls’ bathrooms and changing rooms meant all expectations of privacy and safety for females were threatened. Actual girls would be required to compete against actual boys in sports.

Kudos to Riley Gaines who, in recent years, has led the battle to protect women’s sports.

The ideologues in the Biden-Harris administration also threatened free speech. Schools would lose government subsidizing unless employees also referred to female-identifying boys as “her” and “she.” Failure to do so would be considered a civil rights violation.

Did anyone ever think our government would try to force us to lie?

The Biden-Harris rule also would have overturned the laws in twenty-six states that seek to protect girls, women, and parental rights.

All these issues and more were at stake in a US District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. In a case brought by our good friends at Alliance Defending Freedom, the court found on January 9 that the Biden-Harris rule was “arbitrary and capricious.” The court also said the rule violated the constitutional protections of free speech. The judge blocked enforcement of the rule across the entire country.

We expect the incoming Trump administration to withdraw the subversive Biden-Harris rule and uphold Title IX’s original protection for girls and women. In fact, at a large gathering of faith leaders in 2024, I had the public opportunity to ask then-candidate Donald Trump what he would do about radical transgender ideology pervading many schools. Trump replied, “I’ll stop it on day one!”

The Title IX concern is one of many examples stressing the importance of Christians and like-minded people being actively involved citizens and voters. Protecting families and biblical values remains a top priority for JDFI.

America will only be “great again” if it is godly again.
