Christianity in Europe has been in decline for decades. A new Pew Research Center study says the same thing is happening in the United States. Pew predicts Christians will be a minority in our country by 2075 or sooner. I hope and pray Pew is wrong.
America, with a dwindling number of Christians among its population, will not long survive as a Constitutional Republic built on the truth that liberty comes from the God of the Bible.
One thing Pew can't predict is when and if God will choose to bring revival to America. We must all pray that such a revival comes soon, not only here but in Europe as well.
This week the most watched funeral in the history of the world took place when Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest. It is estimated that four billion people viewed the ceremony.
Queen Elizabeth was a follower of Jesus Christ. She said so repeatedly during her 70-year reign. Most of the hymns played at Westminster Abbey in London on Monday were personally selected by her.
The four billion people watching heard the mourners sing among other hymns "All My Hope on God is Founded," "Christ So Made the Sure Foundation," and "The Day Thou Gavest, Lord, Is Ended."
Billions also heard God's word quoted throughout the service. They heard John 14:6: "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.'"
They heard I Corinthians 15:54-55: ". . . then shall come to pass the saying that is written: 'Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy victory? O death, where is thy sting?'"
It may very well be that the Queen's funeral will end up being the largest single evangelistic event in history. Let's pray that people will be moved by God's holy words and that lives will be transformed by the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
