The House of Representatives, with a narrow Republican majority, just passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that funds the U.S. military. Usually, Pentagon spending enjoys broad bipartisan support, but this year the vote was only 219 to 210. The "nay" votes came almost entirely from Democrats who were upset that House Republicans added amendments to stop the left-wing social agenda that is undermining military morale and hurting recruiting.
The amendments, all of which JDFI strongly supports, prevent taxpayer funding of abortion and transgender surgeries, as well as the teaching of racist critical race theory (CRT) in Pentagon-run schools and to our brave men and women in uniform.
Each of the commonsense amendments passed by virtually pure partisan votes, with all Republicans except four voting "yes," and all Democrats, except four, voting "no."
The Democrat-controlled Senate has its own spending legislation that continues taxpayer funding of abortion, transgender surgeries and racist CRT. The House and Senate bills have to be "reconciled" into one version of the legislation. Biden is signaling that he will veto any bill that doesn't force taxpayers to pay for abortion and transgender surgeries.
We urge House Republican negotiators to stand their ground. The American people want a strong military in our dangerous world. We don't want a military that is using our tax money to kill unborn children and operate surgically on soldiers to "change" their gender.
Millions of American families will not encourage their sons and daughters to serve in such a military.
