The James Dobson Family Institute Commends the HHS for Restoring the Definition of Gender as ‘A Biological, Immutable Condition’

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Oct 31, 2018 — The James Dobson Family Institute (JDFI) issues the following statement in support of the decision by President Trump and the Department of Health and Human Services to roll back Obama-era regulations that broadened the definition of sex in Title IX beyond the biological categories of male and female to include transgender and gender identity language:

The JDFI strongly supports the decision of the Trump administration to affirm sex-based determinations that are gender-based, biologically male and female, and consistent with science. This is in keeping with the traditional definition of gender the Christian community has always held, and that we as a nation have maintained with uniformity until only recently. In fact, by taking this courageous and common sense action, the Department of Health and Human Services is simply going back to pre-Obama era regulations and policies.

In this decision, the President has declared that the gender-based discriminations outlawed in Title IX are limited to male versus female. It does not include transgender sexual orientation or gender identity language, which is properly excluded from the definition of sex. We urge Congress to follow the President’s lead by providing a legal definition of sex in federal law so that the Title IX legislation is abundantly and legally certain in all instances.

This is vital not only for the HHS, which must deal with these regulations frequently, but also for all government, including the courts, which requires a clear understanding of what Congress meant by the word, ‘sex’ when they originally established Title IX. It’s time to put an end to the attempts by LGBT activists to shoehorn into Title IX any identities and language that go against legislative intent and biology. This decision is good for America, and the faith-based community should be encouraged.

A significant exchange of words occurred a few days ago between First Lady Jill Biden and a young American child. Children were at the White House on the occasion of the Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots campaign. Mrs. Biden greeted the children with a shout of “Happy Holidays!” One courageous child loudly responded, “Happy Christmas!”

Seven Critical Issues

JDFI made a substantial commitment this year to help ensure Christians had the information they needed on each of these issues so they could be discerning, educated voters. We also wanted to increase the number of Christ-followers who voted. We have been deeply troubled that Christian involvement in elections has lagged behind the participation rates of other demographic groups.
