The Divided House: Kamala Harris and the Dilemma of Democracy

The Divided House: Kamala Harris and the Dilemma of Democracy
1:46

Americans who are worried about our “democracy” will not be reassured by a recent vote in the House of Representatives. Two hundred and six Democratic members of the House voted against a government-funding bill that would prevent a shutdown because the bill had a provision prohibiting noncitizens from voting. Virtually everyone in America believes only US citizens should be allowed to vote.

The issue looms large in the presidential campaign. Ninety-four percent of the “no” votes were cast by congressmen who have endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris!

Harris has the Washington “swamp” rallying around her. The IRS union just issued an enthusiastic endorsement. Harris promises higher taxes, and that means a bigger IRS. Trump continues to push tax cuts on the middle class, on Social Security income, on tips, and on overtime pay. Good for taxpayers, bad for IRS agents.

Harris also received the strange endorsement of a bunch of retired generals and former intelligence officials. Under Harris-Biden, military recruiting has plummeted, defense spending has declined after inflation, and America’s enemies are growing stronger. Under Trump, peace was breaking out in the Middle East, and Putin was afraid to go into Ukraine. Maybe that is why polls show veterans and the rank-and-file military are voting for Trump-Vance.

The Harris campaign continues to push two contradictory ideas. Vice President Harris and Governor Walz describe themselves as “happy warriors” filled with “joy” — even though their big theme is “abortion, abortion, and more abortion.” Before the campaign ends, Harris and her allies will spend one billion dollars promoting abortion on demand. There is nothing joyous or happy about that.

Inspiration That Could Save America

There is always an October surprise in every election, and we may have just experienced it. More on that later. The presidential campaigns are deploying resources and crafting messages to clarify the choice before us. Former President Donald Trump spent half an hour as a McDonald’s employee, effectively turning it into “Donald’s” as he served Pennsylvania families burgers and fries. At a rally in the same state, steel workers gathered around him and gave him a hard hat, insisting that Trump saved the steel industry. Then Trump showed his support of the American people by attending an NFL game. The stadium erupted in chants of “USA! USA!”
