But recently, two MSNBC hosts finally found a book from which they want to protect public school children from learning about. The book is not "Heather Has Two Mommies." It is the Bible.
What had hosts Alex Wagner and Antonia Hylton in a meltdown was the LifeWise Academy that runs a "release time Bible instruction program." Children, with parental permission, are transported to another location during the school day for an hour-long lesson from the Bible that teaches a positive character trait such as honesty or not stealing. No tax money is used. It is voluntary and non-denominational.
Given what's happening in many American schools, what could be better than teaching basic values? But the MSNBC hosts claimed the real purpose was "politics," and that the Christian group associates with the "far-right."
Thirty-thousand children from 300 public schools nationwide are participants in the program. May their numbers grow!
