Presidential Debate Bias: ABC News Undermines Fairness with Misleading Tactics

Written by Gary Bauer | September 12, 2024

This week’s ABC News-sponsored presidential debate was a disservice to our constitutional Republic and harmful to the cause of free and fair elections.

The ABC News moderators made every effort to tilt the debate in favor of Vice President Harris. One tactic was to “fact-check” or “correct” Donald Trump, but their fact-checks proved, more often than not, wrong.

During a heated exchange, Harris falsely claimed that Donald Trump wants a national ban on abortion. He has repeatedly said he wants citizens of each state—not the federal government—to handle the issue. The moderators did not correct Harris. Trump correctly stated that some abortions take place in the last trimester of pregnancy, and that babies are even left to die after botched abortions. Moderator Linsey Davis then interjected, “There is no state where it is legal to kill a baby after it’s born.” The truth is that Minnesota and two other states have removed protections for those babies. In addition, seven states and the District of Columbia have no restrictions of any kind on abortion.

Kamala Harris’s campaign, as with President Biden’s before her, makes clear that their party is relying on abortion to carry them to victory.

Our economy is in decline; inflation has destroyed family budgets; our borders are not secure; a world war is a real threat; and most Americans think our nation is headed in the wrong direction.

But in Vice President Harris’s campaign, those issues aren’t nearly as important as her commitment to federalized abortion-on-demand and her desire to cancel all state pro-life laws.
