Our Deeply Divided Nation

Our Deeply Divided Nation
4:44

This past weekend, there were demonstrations in 1,300 locations across the country. The good news is that the protestors were peaceful. The bad news is that the rhetoric of many speakers was “unhinged” and continued to label opponents, including the president of the United States, as “Nazis,” “fascists,” or “dictators.” Such inflammatory and untrue diatribes can contribute to the increasing political violence we have seen in our nation. In fact, a new report this week found that among people on the political left, 55 percent thought it would be acceptable for someone to kill President Trump, and 48 percent said the same about Elon Musk.

Media coverage, not surprisingly, was 99.9 percent positive. According to many “mainstream” media outlets, the rallies were mostly Middle Americans who were now rejecting the policy changes being implemented in Washington, DC, by the Trump administration.

That’s not an entirely accurate analysis of the marchers. For the most part, the demonstrations represented the secular Left. The truth is that America is divided deeply on virtually every major issue, from the sanctity of life to religious liberty. By and large, the people in the streets this weekend did not vote for Donald Trump. Fox News reporters interviewing people in the crowds had a hard time finding even one former Trump voter. The biggest rallies took place in America’s largest cities, the populations of which overwhelmingly vote liberal.

The causes championed tell us a lot about who was demonstrating. The 150 left-wing groups inspiring the protests are committed to a variety of liberal causes. They support abortion-on-demand during all nine months of pregnancy. They want taxpayers to pay for abortions and support more government funds for Planned Parenthood, America’s leading abortion provider.

The pro-LGBTQ movement was heavily represented at these protests. They’re furious that the Trump-Vance administration is ending grants from the federal Department of Education and other cabinet agencies that push LGBTQ ideology on our kids. They support permitting men who “identify” as women to compete and cheat in women’s sports. They oppose the parental rights movement that sprang up in America in 2021. Many believe government, not parents, should be in charge of our children.

The estimated fifteen thousand protesters in Washington, DC, were demonstrating against cuts in federal government size. What a shock! Many of them work for the federal government. The bureaucrats are on the defensive because of the waste and fraud uncovered by Elon Musk and the DOGE team over the last several months.

Sadly, some marchers were anti-Israel, pro-Hamas sympathizers. We have seen the same people demonstrate on our university campuses. The protestors were angry that funds were and are being cut by the Trump-Vance administration from universities that allowed, and in some cases encouraged, antisemitism to fester on their campuses.

Other groups behind the rallies have attacked religious liberty. They support efforts to force Christian business people to participate in or service same-sex marriage. They want Christian ministries to subsidize abortions and transgender procedures for their employees. They call those of us who love Jesus and love America “Christian nationalists” who are a “danger to democracy.”

Marchers were angry that the US, under Donald Trump and J.D. Vance, had secured our borders. Illegal immigration hit a record low last month—down 94 percent compared to March 2024 under former President Joe Biden. The protesters want open borders as we had under the previous administration. They are furious that illegal aliens, primarily criminals, are being sent back to their origin countries. By the way, in virtually every poll, the general public supports President Trump’s new enhanced border security policies.

If the protesters were in charge, those of us who believe in the sanctity of life, religious liberty, secure borders, limited government, parental rights, and Judeo-Christian values would not be happy. Hopefully, we would take to the streets in protest!

So, don’t let the media deceive you about what happened this weekend. The leftist demonstrators were people who are not happy that former Vice President Kamala Harris lost the last election.

They have every right to demonstrate. However, on most issues, they do not represent the majority of Americans. That is particularly true regarding faith, family, freedom, and the sanctity of life.
