On Saturday, May 1, the citizens of Lubbock took a strong stand for life, voting to pass an ordinance that makes abortion illegal within city limits.
The ordinance, which passed with more than 62% of the vote, declares: "It shall be unlawful for any person to procure or perform an abortion of any type and at any stage of pregnancy in the City of Lubbock, Texas … It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly aid or abet an abortion that occurs in the City of Lubbock, Texas."
Notably, citizens passed the ordinance after the city council voted 7-0 against it. This outstanding action by Lubbock citizens dealt a blow to Planned Parenthood, which in April had begun performing abortions at a new clinic in the city.
Mark Lee Dickson, founder of the Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn Initiative and director of Right to Life of East Texas, said "Now that the voters have spoken, we expect Planned Parenthood to respect the outcome of this election and cease providing abortions at its Lubbock clinic."
What a victory in the battle for life! Lubbock is now the 26th city in the nation to declare itself a "sanctuary city for the unborn," and it is the largest to do so. Join us in praying that this would ignite citizens in more cities across the country to stand up for life and say "No more!" to abortion.
