The European Parliament, the main legislative body of the European Union, has just insulted Christians everywhere. In an art exhibit sponsored by the parliament, there is a display depicting Jesus with homosexual men dressed in attire associated with bondage and sadomasochism around him. The so-called "artist" is Elisabeth Ohlson, a Swedish woman who has a history of creating anti-Christian artwork. According to the Christian Post, Ohlson previously created a painting showing the Garden of Eden that replaced Adam and Eve with two homosexual couples.
Many conservative members of the parliament have expressed outrage over the art, calling it "vulgar" and "disrespectful." Others have pointed out that the European Parliament's own rules prohibit exhibitions that are "offensive or of an inflammatory nature."
Sadly, Christianity is under attack all over Europe and in the "West" generally. Normal biblical concepts and teachings have been labeled as hate speech in multiple European nations, as well as in Canada and Australia.
Many historians believe that without Christian teachings on the dignity and value of each human being made in the image of God, Western civilization and its accomplishments would have been impossible. Today, the Christian heritage of Europe, and sadly, the United States, too, is being erased by powerful political and cultural forces.
JDFI is thankful that here in America we have a First Amendment that protects the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion. We must do everything we can to protect these precious rights.
