The Daily Caller New Foundation is reporting that the law is showing results, with hundreds of books being removed from classrooms and school libraries. Media coverage has claimed that great works of literature are being banned in Florida. In fact, the removed material is deeply offensive and, in many cases, promotes LGBTQ+ themes.
The books in Florida have also been found in many other school libraries and classrooms across the country. They include, "This Book Is Gay," "Gender Queer," "Let's Talk About It" and "It's Perfectly Normal."
Taryn Fenske, who is the communications director for Governor DeSantis, provided excerpts from several of the books that children had previously been exposed to. They are deeply disturbing. "This Book Is Gay" includes a glossary of words describing various sexual practices that are perverse and dangerous.
The book, "Let's Talk About It," promotes promiscuity and "recreational" sex. The book claims it is suitable for children ages 10 and up.
While the Florida legislation is working, the battle over age-appropriate material in the classroom rages on. Some school districts run by school boards with far-left majorities continue to resist the law. Nonetheless, Florida is the first large, multi-cultural state to confront this issue. JDFI commends Governor DeSantis and the state legislature.
