Dr. James Dobson and the James Dobson Family Institute (JDFI) are pleased to announce that Gary Bauer has joined the JDFI team as Sr. Vice President of Public Policy. Gary has an accomplished career in the public policy field, having served in numerous leadership positions during the past several decades. He participated in the Reagan administration as Under Secretary of Education, and then White House Head of the Office of Policy Development. After leaving the Reagan White House, Gary became president of the Family Research Council and senior vice president of Focus on the Family. He later shared his pro-faith, pro-family, and pro-life policies across the country during the 2000 Republican presidential primaries and debates. In 2018, President Donald Trump appointed Gary Bauer to the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF).
Gary will continue to serve as president of American Values, a public policy organization promoting Judeo-Christian values in Washington, D.C.
Dr. James Dobson shared the following statement regarding Gary's appointment to this vital ministry role for JDFI:
"The American family is under siege. Every day the Left, and sadly our own government, are attacking God's design for marriage, overtly deconstructing the meaning of manhood and womanhood, and relentlessly pursuing a direct assault against our unborn children. Gary Bauer, my close colleague for many years, has stood with me to defend our Lord's institution of the family, our religious liberties, and the sanctity of human life. He is a godly man with great conviction and compassion who cares deeply for people. I can think of no one I would rather have leading our policy center during this critical time in America's history."
Gary received his law degree from Georgetown Law School in Washington, D.C. He is married to the former Carol Hoke, and the proud father of three grown children and grandfather to seven grandchildren.
