COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Jan 15, 2018 — Dr. James Dobson issues the following statement in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day:
“In an era marked by many well-intentioned social causes and campaigns – which mostly lack the power and moral authority only God can provide – Martin Luther King Jr.’s extraordinary contributions to the Civil Rights Movement stand distinctly apart. Dr. King was at his core, a pastor and a preacher whose great love for God guided and shaped the remarkable arc of his life. It was his faith in the goodness and justice of God which ultimately empowered him to help lead our nation in its fight against the evils of bigotry and prejudice.
“Whether through our persistent racial divisions or the erosion of our political, legal and social institutions, our current day shares striking parallels with the 60s. It is in times such as these, that we benefit most from remembering the words of Dr. King: ‘The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.’
“Today, whether you find yourself serving in the community, building cultural bridges with people who might look or sound a little different than you, or are praying for peace in our nation and around the world, may we all remember his example of love, collaboration and nonviolence, and the principles he followed in the personhood of Jesus Christ, and may God richly bless our nation as we remember this great man of God.”
