There was an unusual press conference in Washington, D.C., recently. A group of doctors came together to promote a declaration stating that sex is an "innate trait defined in relation to an organism's biological role in reproduction."
That's just common sense to most Americans, but that's precisely why it was so unusual in Washington, D.C. It is also a damning indictment of our culture that such a statement is even necessary. But the prevailing left-wing ideology insists there are dozens of genders and that sex is "fluid."
JDFI is pleased to report that the American College of Pediatricians announced a new initiative at the National Press Club called the "Doctors Protecting Children Declaration." It is an effort by concerned medical professionals to combat the insanity sweeping the country in the name of "gender-affirming care"—the idea that some children are born in the wrong body and should change their biological sex.
There is nothing "affirming" about it. It denies reality, denies science, and denies the best interests of the children involved.
Sadly, too many so-called "doctors" and "counselors" are rushing confused children, often suffering from multiple mental illnesses and obviously incapable of informed consent, into one impossible solution: changing their gender. Rather than treating the underlying psychological problems, they quickly resort to mutilating surgeries and powerful sterilizing drugs.
Far too often the motivations are radical gender ideology and greed. Investigative journalists have uncovered video of hospital administrators telling doctors and nurses that they must perform transgender procedures on children because they are "huge money makers," and "require a lot of follow-up" office visits.
Unbelievably, these radical procedures are supported by leading medical associations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Endocrine Society, the American Medical Association, and the American Psychological Association. Like so many American institutions, these organizations have been captured by left-wing activists driven by warped ideologies, not science.
But in spite of their "scientific imprimatur," this outrageous "transgender" experimentation on children is the greatest medical scandal in decades, and JDFI is working vigorously to stop it.
Thankfully, more and more medical professionals are standing up and saying, "Enough!" Dr. Jill Simons, Executive Director of the American College of Pediatricians, said:
"It is time that these American medical institutions follow the science and the lead of our European professional colleagues and cease to promote protocols that harm children, including the promotion of social affirmation, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries for children and adolescents who experience distress over their biological sex."
As the Doctors Protecting Children Declaration notes, several European countries have slammed the brakes on so-called "gender-affirming care" for children after multiple studies confirmed that these radical procedures have little to no benefit, and the drugs involved have dangerous side effects, including heart attacks, blood clots, strokes, and cancer.
