Celebrating God and America

Celebrating God and America
3:55

Another big battle is brewing in our nation. To be prepared, we need to remember a bit of our history.

This past weekend was the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord—the first armed conflicts of our Revolutionary War for independence. The Battle at Concord Bridge is often referred to as “the shot heard ‘round the world.”

While the Battle of Lexington occurred first, it was more of a chaotic skirmish. Concord Bridge was the place where American militiamen were initially ordered by a commanding officer to open fire on British troops.

The overwhelming opinion of “experts” at the time was that the American colonists would be crushed by the powerful British Empire. But, because of His hand of protection, we can thank God they were not crushed.

American patriots prevailed in the Revolutionary War. They were primarily farmers and craftsmen led by our Founding Fathers: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Adams, Patrick Henry, and others. They created an exceptional nation that has inspired freedom-loving people around the world.

Another significant event occurred the day before the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Friday, April 18, marked the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride when he heralded a warning to the colonists that British troops were marching toward them.

Last month, the US celebrated the 250th anniversary of Patrick Henry’s famous speech before the Second Virginia Convention. While some urged caution and reconciliation with Great Britain, Henry declared, “Give me liberty or give me death!”

I’m sure you see the pattern here.

These semiquincentennial events are leading us to America’s most substantial commemoration date of all: July 4, 2026—the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and our country’s founding. Our charter document states clearly in its second paragraph that God, not the government, is the Creator of our liberty. That is why we are an exceptional nation.

Sadly, these significant anniversaries haven’t gotten much attention. During the Easter events at the White House, I was reminded that President Trump is committed to changing this in time for the huge celebration he is planning for next year. The president wants to use the anniversary of America’s founding to remind our citizens that we are “one nation under God.”

President Trump hopes that, by celebrating America, we can inspire patriotism among the young and the old alike and renew our faith in the God of the Bible, who has protected us throughout our history.

Millions of Americans will be happy to see this new emphasis on God and country. But not everyone will be on board. I am predicting a big battle of words. The secular left has long been trying to rip Americans from our Judeo-Christian roots. Many leftists were even critical of the Trump White House openly celebrating Easter and Passover.

The Left wants to drastically redefine America as a nation built on the unregulated liberty of individuals to do anything and everything they want. In contrast, our country’s founders believed in “ordered liberty” under God. They believed that only a moral people could remain free.

In the months ahead, you will hear a lot of silliness, and worse, from the secular left. They will claim a “theocracy” is being built in the US by “dangerous Christian nationalists.” You will hear endless repetition of the phrase, “separation of church and state.”

This rhetoric is an intentional deception. The facts are that God’s hand was with us at the founding and has protected us throughout our history. Our only hope is for America to turn its heart back to Him. We are encouraging President Trump to do everything he can to speak the truth about our nation’s history.
