JDFI believes in the Constitution and the separation of powers between the three branches of government. We believe the Supreme Court should be an independent and coequal branch of government, not subservient to the whims of either party, the president, or Congress. We believe justices should follow the words of the Constitution when making decisions.
If you agree, you will understand how disturbed we are that lame-duck President Joe Biden has announced a series of changes to the high court, which he calls “reforms.”
In Biden’s recent Washington Post editorial, he called for a strict, enforceable ethics code for the justices, a turnover of seats on the court every two years, and a new constitutional amendment to undo the court’s decision that provides some degree of immunity to presidents for their official actions. Each of these provisions presents serious problems.
While the proposals are dressed up in the language of reform, they are nothing more than an escalation in the left’s ongoing attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the Supreme Court, the one branch of government they do not control. The Democratic Party believes the court must be mandated to kneel because it is standing in the way of their radical agenda and efforts to undermine the founding principle of America: liberty comes from God, not government.
Predictably, left-wing politicians are not even trying to disguise their intentions. Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren accused the high court of “actively undermining our democracy.” Warren also raised the specter of court-packing, expanding the number of justices to create a liberal majority who will rubber-stamp the left’s radical agenda.
Vice President Kamala Harris, the likely Democrat nominee for president, has endorsed Joe Biden’s proposed alterations to the Supreme Court. She also has said she was “open” to packing the court with additional left-wing justices.
JDFI will continue opposing efforts to “fundamentally transform” our governing institutions and, in the process, to transform the country we love.
