Alaska Airlines Fires Employees for Questioning Misnamed "Equality Act"

When Alaska Airlines came out in support of the deceptively named "Equality Act," the company invited employees to offer feedback on an internal employee forum. But when two flight attendants expressed concerns about the company's endorsement, they were fired.

Alaska Airlines claims the employees' comments were hateful, but the flight attendants believe they were fired because of their religious beliefs. And the First Liberty Institute (FLI) agrees.

FLI has filed "Charge of Discrimination" complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on behalf of the flight attendants, and stated the airline's actions violated the law. "The idea that an employer can fire an employee for expressing a religious belief is chilling — especially when you consider the fact that the 'Equality' Act is still a proposal, and it has not been signed into law," said FLI's Liberty McArtor in a statement. McArtor added, "[O]ur current state and federal civil rights laws prohibit discrimination against someone because of their religious beliefs and expression."

As we've shared previously, the Equality Act is a horrendous piece of legislation that will hurt women and girls, eliminate important protections for religious freedom, and advance the radical LGBTQ agenda. For good reason, people of faith and freedom-loving Americans are very concerned about this bill.

To learn more about the Equality Act, read Dr. James Dobson's recent newsletter, in which he explains that the proposed legislation "has nothing to do with 'equality.' On the contrary, it creates special rights based on 'sexual orientation' and 'gender identity,' at the expense and detriment of all Americans."

Children were at the White House on the occasion of the Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots campaign. Mrs. Biden greeted the children with a shout of “Happy Holidays!” One courageous child loudly responded, “Happy Christmas!”

Seven Critical Issues

JDFI made a substantial commitment this year to help ensure Christians had the information they needed on each of these issues so they could be discerning, educated voters. We also wanted to increase the number of Christ-followers who voted. We have been deeply troubled that Christian involvement in elections has lagged behind the participation rates of other demographic groups.
