Anxiety Around the Coronavirus
"The vast majority of America's founding fathers revered the Lord and looked to Him for strength and wisdom. Today we cling to the same source of confidence and hope."
–Dr. James Dobson
I'm writing to encourage you during this troubling time in our nation. We hear of millions of people around the world, including many Americans, who are living in fear of the coronavirus as it spreads throughout the human family. We know "this too shall pass," but for now, we must care for and comfort one another. There is good news for those who are followers of Jesus Christ. The Scripture invites us to "cast our anxieties on Him, because He cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7). Another verse reads, "The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble" (Psalm 9:9). He tells us lovingly to "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine" (Isaiah 43:1). Can you imagine that the Creator of the universe knows you and me personally and offers comfort during such a time as this? I also love the lyrics of an old hymn that reads, "His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me."
For those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus, He opens His arms to you. He died so that all those who come to Him in repentance from sin will be forgiven and given fellowship with Him. You can't earn that blessing or do anything to deserve it. It is God's gift. He also promises eternal life to those who accept it. Today, as we approach the Easter season, wouldn't this be a wonderful time to become a child of the King?
I reach out to you today with an arm of friendship. I hope we will meet someday, if not in this life, in the world to come. Stay safe. Stay warm. -Dr. Dobson
